Kid Chauffeur Express expands services to camp and other cities

Sierra Young knows the difficulties of being a single mother. As her three children were young, she was responsible not only for providing an income, but also for being the sole caretaker.

No matter how hard she tried, she knew she couldn’t be in two places at once.

“It was always hard for me to leave work and take the kids to where they needed to be,” she recalls. Young had two jobs at the time. “I missed a lot of things.”

She wanted to make sure no parent had to choose between feeding their child and being available to take them to school or after-school activities, which is why she opened Kid Chauffeur Express in 2017.

“It’s like Lyft or Uber but just for kids,” she said.

The idea was for parents to use his services to take their children where they needed to go, on their own. Young’s fleet of about 15 drivers, all of whom are vetted and background checked, are available for random pickups — if, say, a parent needs their child picked up from the library — as well as schedules. fixed.

For random collections, parents receive driver and car information. For recurring events, such as karate lessons or school transport, Young organizes a meeting with drivers and parents. Price is based on mileage.

Summer camp offers programs for working parents during school vacations

With the transportation industry booming, Young decided to offer more than just rides by launching an affordable eight-week summer camp in 2019. For $500, or less than $65 a week, kids from the Kid Chauffeur Express camp receive two meals. a day, a snack, activities and several field trips, including visits to skating rinks, water games and more.

“It can be very difficult, especially in this area, for parents to pay so much for camp,” she said. “I wanted to make sure I was offering something fair and affordable.”

Young also offers discounted transportation to and from camp.

“We do nature walks, paint, etc.,” Young said. “We’re leaving the phones and connecting with each other and with other skills.”

One day at a recent summer camp session, the kids lay down in Young’s office, which has been converted into a kid-friendly space with TVs, video game consoles, books and more. Again. The day before, they took a trip to the North Canton Skate & Entertainment Center, where they played laser tag, raced karts, and played arcade games.

“I’ve been on all his sides,” said 13-year-old Kyila Spy. “I like it, and it’s really fun. We do a lot of field trips. I like to be with friends.

Kid Chauffeur Express plans to expand to Cleveland and Canton

Much of Young’s business serves Sherbondy Hill and Kenmore, the two neighborhoods he straddles, but customers are spread out in the Akron area.

“I knew there was a need. I just didn’t realize how great the need was until I started doing it,” she said.

And the interest doesn’t just apply to parents – there are around 60 drivers on the waiting list to work for the company.

She’s been working to expand to Cleveland and Canton — a venture she started just before the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted those plans.

“I’m excited to see how the business will continue to grow,” Young said.
